In 2015, James Oschman, Gaétan Chevalier, and Richard Brown pulled the grounding literature together in the Journal of Inflammation Research and proposed an explanation for it.

What holds the evidence together is convergence. None of those measurements depend on the others, and all of them point the same direction.
